Parents' Area

As the first educators of their children, parents play a crucial role in their children’s education. Parental engagement in school activities is crucial for a child’s cognitive, social and emotional development. Playing with children or reading to them in their early years, helping with homework or discussing school life at home, taking part in parent-teacher meetings and other school activities will have positive and lasting effects on children’s motivation to learn, their attention, behaviour and academic achievements.

Home-School Communication

Please scroll to the bottom of the page for links to Aladdin Connect, Facebook, the school email & the school phone number.

The parent/teacher partnership is an integral part of your child’s education and open communication is very important. There are a number of ways of promoting this aspect of school life.

Aladdin Connect: Aladdin Connect is used to securely communicate and share information with parents/guardians. As well as messages from the school, you can view details about your child’s attendance, report cards and homework. You can also enter reasons for your child’s absences from the Aladdin Connect app.

Parent/Teacher Meeting: Formal parent teacher meetings are held annually to discuss your child’s progress.

Facebook: You can keep up to date with the latest news and announcements on our school Facebook page.

Seesaw: Seesaw is a digital portfolio tool, which allows pupils to store their work in an online space and gain feedback from their teacher.

School Report: Issued annually.

Other means of communication: You may contact the school by phone or email should you have any queries or concerns.

Parents' Association

We have a dedicated, hard working Parents’ Association that support our school in many different ways. They work with the principal, staff and Board of Management to build effective co-operation and partnership between home and school.

The main aims and objectives of the Parents’ Association include:

To liaise with the principal and teaching staff.

To represent the views of the parents and provide a forum for discussion with the principal on relevant issues.

To help the school achieve its aim – providing the best education for all our children.

To provide support for parents.

To facilitate social opportunities for parents at school based meetings.

To help the school financially when necessary.

To provide practical help when required.

First Class parents are asked to help with refreshments for the First Holy Communion celebration in the Parochial Hall.

Outside Agencies

The National Parents Council – Primary (NPC) is a nationwide organisation representing parents of children that are attending primary education. The NPC mission statement states that the NPC is established “to improve and enrich the education of each child and to support the involvement of parents in all stages of education.”

NCSE – National Council for Special Education was set up to improve the delivery of education services to persons with special educational needs arising from disabilities with particular emphasis on children. The SENO allocated to our school is Ms Eimear Quinn.

NEPS – NEPS stands for the National Educational Psychological Service. Psychologists specialise in working with the school community and provide a consultative approach when supporting schools. Our NEPS psychologist is Teresa Mc Laughlin, who works in partnership with teachers, parents and children in identifying educational needs. The focus is on empowering teachers to intervene effectively with all pupils. NEPS encourages schools to use a continuum based assessment and intervention process. This means that schools take responsibility for initial assessments, educational planning and remedial intervention for pupils with learning, emotional or behavioural difficulties. If the student does not make reasonable progress, in spite of the school’s best efforts in consultation with NEPS, only then will the psychologist become involved with an individual child for intensive intervention.

Critical Incidents – NEPS is not just involved in educational assessment. It also provides assistance to every school that experiences critical incidents. These incidents generally arise due to the death through illness, or accident of a pupil, however NEPS can also be called in to help schools when a community experiences a catastrophic event.
